Giovanni Bernardini is researcher at the German-Italian Historical Institute (Istituto Storico Italo-Germanico) in Trento (Italy). He graduated in Political Science at the Faculty "Cesare Alfieri”, Florence (Italy) in 2000. He earned his Ph.D. in History of International Relations from the University of Florence in 2005, with a thesis on the relations between the US Administration and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany between 1969 and 1974 (Supervisor Prof. Antonio Varsori). He was Research Fellow at the Department of International Studies, University of Padua (Italy) between 2006 and 2010 under the supervision of Prof. Carla Meneguzzi. During the last years he has focused on the comparative study of the socialist and social democratic parties of Western Europe in the postwar era, and on their cooperation and mutual influence.
